Beginner's Guide to Hytale Servers
Welcome to the world of Hytale multiplayer! Whether you just picked up the game or have been exploring solo, jumping into a server is one of the best ways to experience everything Hytale has to offer. This guide will walk you through finding, joining, and thriving on multiplayer servers.
What Are Hytale Servers?
Hytale servers are dedicated multiplayer worlds hosted by players and communities. Each server can run its own mods, custom game modes, and unique content. Thanks to Hytale's server-side modding system, you do not need to install anything extra. When you connect, the server automatically streams any custom assets to your game client.
Servers typically fall into a few categories:
- Survival / Exploration - The core Hytale experience with other players. Gather resources, build bases, explore biomes, and fight mobs together.
- Creative - Unrestricted building tools, no survival mechanics. Great for collaborative projects and world design.
- PvP - Combat-focused servers with arenas, team battles, and competitive modes.
- Minigames - Rotating game modes like parkour, races, and custom challenges.
- Modded - Servers running community-created plugins and content packs that add entirely new gameplay systems.
Finding the Right Server
The best place to discover servers is right here on Hytale Den. You can browse and filter by:
- Game Mode - Survival, PvP, Creative, Minigames, and more
- Region - Choose servers geographically close to you for lower latency
- Player Count - See how active each server is in real time
- Votes - Community-ranked servers rise to the top
Each server listing includes a description, tags, connection details, and live player counts so you can make an informed choice before joining.
Joining a Server
Once you have found a server you want to try:
- Launch Hytale
- From the main menu, select Multiplayer
- Click Add Server
- Enter the server IP address and port (found on the server's Hytale Den listing)
- Click Join
Hytale uses QUIC over UDP on port 5520 by default. If a server uses a different port, it will be listed alongside the IP address.
Understanding the World of Orbis
When you join a server running Exploration Mode, you will be dropped into the world of Orbis. There are currently four zones to discover:
- Zone 1: Emerald Wilds - The starting zone with lush forests, plains, swamps, and gentle rolling hills. You will find plenty of basic resources here.
- Zone 2: Howling Sands - A harsh desert zone with scorching temperatures, vast dunes, and hidden oases.
- Zone 3: Whisperfrost Frontiers - Snow-covered mountains, frozen lakes, and dense taiga forests. Bring warm gear.
- Zone 4: Devastated Lands - A volcanic, high-difficulty zone with lava flows and ash storms. The underground areas hide lush caverns and subterranean jungles.
Server Etiquette
Every server has its own culture and rules, but a few principles are universal:
- Read the rules before doing anything else. Most servers post them at spawn or in a welcome message.
- Be respectful to other players and staff.
- Do not grief or steal from other players unless the server explicitly allows it.
- Report issues to server moderators rather than taking matters into your own hands.
- Communicate with your fellow players. Hytale is better when people work together.
Voting for Servers
If you enjoy a server, take a moment to vote for it on Hytale Den. Voting helps quality servers get discovered by new players, and many servers reward voters with in-game perks like bonus items or cosmetics. You can vote once every 24 hours per server.
Tips for New Players
- Start small. Join a server with a moderate player count so you can learn the ropes without being overwhelmed.
- Ask questions. Most communities are welcoming to new players. Do not be afraid to ask for help in chat.
- Try different servers. Each community has its own vibe. Explore a few before settling on your home server.
- Check the mods. Some servers run extensive mod packs that change the game significantly. If something feels unfamiliar, the server likely has custom content loaded.
Welcome to the Hytale community. See you in Orbis!
